Rain

These past few weeks have finally felt like the rainy season it is supposed to for this time of year. Clothes weren’t drying and we were surprisingly cold. But the blue has been back in the sky for a few days and now it is I that is in a constantly damp state.

Despite how sucky a motorbike ride to work in the pounding rain is, there is at least one thing lovely about rain:

The other day I was in class teaching away to the hum of the drops on the roof. It was incessant all afternoon. They soon faded into the background, but was ever present in the energy of the kids. Every time it rains the energy from the air makes the kids buzz and restless. Luckily, Friday was Bingo day for most of my classes, so they could turn their energy into exclamations of a varied sort when they did or did not have the word I just read aloud. Its funny, but reminds me of a time long ago, when a friend in Kincardine, Brent, had said that he loved rain because when it rains there is so much energy in the air. I had never thought of rain like that at the time, and had not seen it so obviously illustrated as I have this past month.

Nothing like a change in the weather to bring about a change of spirits. Last week was the first day of fall hear. As in the first day I had to wear a jacket to work. Oddly enough, me and my coworkers were surprisingly chipper the whole day.
